IRCTC witnesses record 5.04 lakh e-tickets bookings in a single day

IRCTC's e-ticketing website -- www.irctc.co.in has once again crossed 5 lakh plus e-ticket booking in a day. On Monday, it booked a record 5.04 lakh e-tickets, the highest ever ticket booking in a single day. On March 1, 2013 it booked 5.02 lakh e-tickets.

more than Rs 37 crore, an official statement released by IRCTC on Tuesday said.
The IRCTC, which is one of the biggest e-commerce sites in the world, has invested heavily on up-gradation of its technology. For example, it invested Rs 3.5 crore in enhancing the concurrent connection to its Firewall from around 10 lakh to more than 80 lakh. Another Rs 3 crore was invested in enhancing the Software licenses and Storage Area Network. Also, the system has been upgraded with more powerful Hexa Core servers (with 64GB RAM) from the earlier Dual Core servers (with 8GB RAM), all the cost of about Rs 4 crore.
About 50% reserved tickets on the Indian Railways network is now booked through IRCTC.
