Tips to PSU CMDs: Ex-IAS & UNIDO director Pradeep Monga on clean energy projects as CSR

Pradeep Monga
TOP public sector honchos have recently interacted with UNIDO director and former IAS officer Pradeep Monga in New Delhi, in an interactive session exploring possibilities of premier CPSEs joining hands with UNIDO on energy efficiency. The discussion that took place in New Delhi’s  SCOPE Convention Centre also centred around how to develop…
clean energy projects as a part of Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) of select public sector enterprises in India.
Monga, a former IAS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre, is now Director, Energy and Climate Change in UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization). The interactive session was facilitated by department of public enterprises, or DPE.
According to a DPE statement, the meeting was to impress upon the top management of CPSEs the need and urgency to devise “strategies for energy conservation and energy management within the organization and also leveraging knowledge and technologies for the benefit of the society through CSR projects or activities”. In fact, profit-making PSEs spend a substantial amount of money in CSR activities, and there is a demand now to channelize some of that amount for clean energy.
A Fulbright and Humphrey scholar, Monga is an expert in energy policy planning, energy technologies and financing mechanisms. Monga has so far presented several technical papers in over 40 international seminars or workshops, and has co-authored three books.
