Know more about MK Surana, next HPCL CMD

MK SURANA will be the new chairman and managing director (CMD) of the state-run oil marketing company Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) from April 2016 following retirement of the current incumbent Nishi Vasudeva, it was announced on October 16. The Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) announced the selection of Surana, currently the chief executive of Prize Petroleum Co, the oil exploration arm of HPCL. The PESB, in a notification, said it interviewed 12 candidates. including HPCL director P.K.Joshi and STC chairman Khaleel Rahim, as well as four HPCL executive directors – SP Gupta, GS Ganesh, S Jeyakrishnan and Ajit Singh for the post.
53-year-old Surana has been executive director with HPCL since September 2012 and will get a five year term that can be extended up to his retirement age of 60 years in April 2022.
Now, his appointment is needed to be confirmed by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) after obtaining clearances from both the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
If Surana's name is approved he will take charge after Nishi Vasudeva, the current Chairman and Managing Director of HPCL retires in March 2016.
A qualified mechanical engineer with certifications in project management and a master’s degree in Finance Management, Surana has a wide exposure of working and heading various departments of Mumbai Refinery, Vizag Refinery & Corporate Division of the Corporation.
He is also a certified Behavioral Assessor and he was associated with the implementation of the ERP project in the corporation, which has given a breakthrough in running the business.
Currently, Surana, who has vast experience in oil and gas industry, is serving as the Chief Executive Officer at Prize Petroleum Company Ltd.
