HE has created a sort of history on July 8 when Sriram Kalyanaraman has been named as the managing director & chief executive officer (CEO) of housing finance regulator National Housing Bank (NHB).
He is the first person from the private sector to head a public sector financial institution.
An official statement said Kalyanaraman, who is currently director (business development) at...
Equifax Credit Information Services Private Ltd., has been appointed as managing director and chief executive officer for "a period of five years from the date of his taking charge".
"The appointment of Kalyanaraman is unique in a way, as he is the first person from the private sector to head a public sector financial institution," the statement said.
The New Delhi-headquartered National Housing Bank, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Reserve Bank of India set up on July 9, 1988 under the National Housing Bank Act, is an apex financial institution for housing.
With a 25-year experience in retail banking and SMEs, Sriram is the first appointee to the newly created post of managing director and CEO in NHB.
NBH is a development finance institution for the housing sector.
In line with the recent approach of bifurcating the CMD post in certain public sector banks, the Centre has now split the CMD post even for NHB and created new designation of managing director & CEO.

Prior to joining Equifax in March 2010, he was director and Head of asset products and business banking at Deutsche Bank India (from February 2007 to March 2010).

He had earlier headed mortgage business at Standard Chartered Bank in India. He also served as a sales director in the bank.
