ONGC bags OGCF Award for Energy Conservation

ADDING yet another feather to its glorious cap, Maharatna PSU ONGC has been conferred with OGCF Award for Energy Conservation. The award has been given for the overall performance in promoting oil and gas conservation in the ‘Upstream Sector’. The award was given to ONGC during the inaugural function of ‘Sanrakhsan Kshamta Mahotsav-2017’ (Saksham-2017) recently at New Delhi.

ONGC has received the award for the second year in succession. Shashi Shanker, Director (T&FS) and Officiating C&MD along with Tapas Kumar Sengupta, Director (Offshore), D D Misra Director (HR) and V P Mahawar Director (Onshore) received the award from Minister of State (IC) for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Dharmendra Pradhan.
The minister complimented ONGC for its awareness campaign on fuel conservation. The event is organized every year by PCRA (Petroleum Conservation Research Association) and other oil PSUs under the aegis of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. This year, the Oil & Gas Conservation event of one month is being organized as “Sanrakhsan Kshamta Mahotsav-2017” from 16 January to 15 February 2017.
Earlier, the oil PSU embarked a month-long oil and gas conservation campaign, christened as Saksham, in its Corporate Office, as well a work centers across the nation. The month-long awareness drive on fuel conservation was inaugurated by Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, which was organised by Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) and other Oil and Gas Public Sector Unit (PSUs) emphasizing on the need for self-sufficiency in the oil and gas sector.
The PSU has also devised various awareness programmes to popularise this energy awareness campaign amongst the employees, their families and the local population in its area of operations. Pan India campaigns like 'Sit and Draw' and 'Slogan Competition' apart from Cyclothon, Walkathon etc. are being organized at all work-centers of ONGC to actively engage employees.
This campaign aims to create awareness among masses towards judicious utilisation and conservation of petroleum products along with use of energy efficient appliances and switching to cleaner fuels.
More than five lakhs school children and youth will take part in this drive.
This is first time that the Government has changed the campaign format from Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight (OGCF) to Saksham for creating a strong brand towards fuel conservation.
The Maharatna PSU under the administrative control of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, is India's largest oil and gas exploration and production company and produces around 70 percent of India's crude oil (equivalent to around 25 percent of the country's total demand) and around 60 percent of its natural gas. With a market capitalisation of over Rs 2 trillion, ONGC is one of India's most valuable publicly-traded companies. ONGC is ranked as the top energy company in India, fifth in Asia and 21st globally as per Platts Top 250 Global Energy Rankings. It was ranked 21st among global Oil and Gas Operations industry in Forbes Global 2000 list of the World's biggest companies for 2014.
